FAQ: Are Pyrex Storage Containers Breakable?

Question:

I was curious to know if Pyrex storage is breakable.  Can you answer that question?  If not, how do I find out?

Answer:

The short answer is yes, Pyrex storage containers are breakable.

But, they are very durable, and difficult to break.  I have dropped many of my Pyrex bowls on the kitchen floor, and banged them up pretty good in the sink too (it’s easy to do when washing dishes by hand with soapy fingers).  So, once again, it’s very hard to do.

With that being said…

I have a few Pyrex bowls in my collection that are chipped a little bit on the outside rim.  But, they are still very usable and continue to be water-tight.  These chips do not exist on all of my Pyrex bowls (only a few) and is the result of years of use and abuse.
